Cargo categories
- Fresh food: meat, dairy, vegetables, fruit (range +2°C to +8°C)
- Frozen: fish, ice cream, ready meals (range -18°C to -25°C)
- Flowers and plants: temperature and any humidity requirements are checked before the shipment is confirmed
- Cosmetics: stable at 18°C to 22°C
Truck equipment
- Thermo King refrigeration unit on our own trailers; when volume exceeds our fleet we also work with partners, and we tell you upfront who runs the trip
- Digital monitoring; if EN 12830 compliance is required, we check the documentation of the proposed equipment
- Temperature log recorded for the whole trip (report you can download at delivery)
- For different temperatures on one shipment, we check whether the required configuration is available before confirmation
- If the cargo requires heating, specify the required temperature so we can check the equipment
Compliance
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| ATP (Agreement on the Transport of Perishable Foodstuffs) | Where required for the cargo, the proposed vehicle’s ATP documentation is checked before confirmation |
| HACCP | Cargo hygiene and cleaning requirements are specified in the request and checked when quoting |
| Reg. (EC) 853/2004 | Requirements applicable to food of animal origin are checked for the requested shipment |
What a documented cold chain means in practice
For a temperature-controlled shipment, we establish cargo requirements and the necessary documentation before confirmation:
- Pre-cooling. Tell us the required loading temperature so trailer preparation can be checked before collection.
- Check at loading. The required temperature, the condition of the cargo at handover and the shipper’s instructions must be clarified before departure.
- Continuous recording. A thermograph for the whole trip, with a sampling interval that lets you reconstruct the temperature history.
- Report at delivery. On delivery you receive the temperature report for the journey. Specify in your request if you need a particular format.
- Handling deviations. Specify a contact person and instructions for any temperature deviations; communication arrangements are agreed before the shipment.

Ranges and cargo types
| Range | Typical cargo | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| −25°C … −18°C | Frozen: meat, fish, vegetables, ice cream | Doors open for 3 minutes can raise the temperature by a few degrees; multi-drop deliveries are planned accordingly |
| −18°C … −12°C | Frozen ready meals | Intermediate range, to be confirmed with the producer |
| 0°C … +8°C | Dairy, fresh meat, vegetables, flowers | The most common range; +2…+4°C is the usual target in retail |
| +15°C … +25°C | Cosmetics, chocolate, wine | In winter the problem is heating, not cooling. The unit has to be able to heat too |
The regulatory framework
- The ATP Agreement: the conditions for the international transport of perishable goods. A vehicle's ATP certificate has an expiry date and is renewed through a technical inspection.
- Regulation (EC) 852/2004: food hygiene, including in transport. The basis of the HACCP requirements that retail chains impose.
- Regulation (EC) 37/2005: temperature monitoring in the transport of frozen food.
When we do not recommend refrigerated transport
- Mixed cargo with incompatible ranges. Specify the required range for each product. We check configuration and availability before confirming whether the goods can travel together.
- Cargo that cannot take dry air. Declare any humidity requirements in the request. Temperature control does not automatically include humidity control.
- Very short trips with barely sensitive cargo. The choice follows the shipper’s instructions and product requirements, including on short routes.
Frequently asked questions
Which temperatures can be controlled in refrigerated transport?
The published range is -25°C to +25°C. We confirm the requested temperature and equipment for your shipment when quoting. Our own trailers use Thermo King; temperature is digitally monitored 24/7, with a report on delivery.
How are documentation and hygiene requirements checked?
Tell us which documents and conditions your cargo requires. Before confirmation we check the proposed vehicle’s documentation, including ATP where required, and hygiene and cleaning requirements.
How much more does refrigerated cost than general freight?
The rate depends on the route, required temperature, duration and shipment configuration. Send these details so we can check availability and quote for your cargo.
Do you accept multi-temperature compartments?
Tell us the required temperatures and quantity of each product. We check whether a suitable configuration can be allocated; compartments and availability are confirmed in the quote.
Temperature-sensitive cargo? Choose carefully who you travel with.
Tell us the required temperature. We check the configuration, monitor temperature during transport and provide the report on delivery.
